When Children Lead With Heart: CSR at THK@Hougang
Last week, we had the joy of hosting Entegris volunteers at THK Nursing Home @ Hougang, where seniors and employees came together to craft herbs for wellness. As part of our CSR turnkey and event service, we design meaningful experiences that combine creativity, intergenerational bonding, and hands-on care.
Healing Crafts for Seniors
The highlight of the day was making herbal neck pillows filled with mugwort, known for its ability to ease muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. Seniors also created herbal seat cushions, perfect for those who spend long hours in wheelchairs. These crafts were not only therapeutic to make but also practical for everyday comfort.
For many volunteers, this was also their first time learning to sew, and it became all the more memorable because they were learning and cheering right beside the seniors. The shared discovery created laughter, conversations, and a sense of togetherness that went beyond the craft itself.
Wellness Beyond the Event
Volunteers also received a mugwort hammer massager and learned simple acupressure massage techniques designed to relieve tension and improve overall wellbeing. These practical skills not only complemented the day’s theme of herbal wellness but also gave participants tools they could bring back into their daily lives.
Children in Action
A special mention goes to two children who came straight from school to the event. Though unsure at first, they quickly jumped into helping the seniors, even learning to sew on the spot while working side by side with residents. Their kindness shone through as they played table ball games, gently asked if seniors wanted to be pushed in their wheelchairs, and offered companionship with genuine warmth.

By designing activities that appeal to them, even in adult-focused volunteering programmes, we ensure they have a fun and memorable experience. These moments of joy and empathy help nurture the next generation of changemakers who will carry the spirit of volunteering into the future.
