Mama Beezy Wrap: A Two-Way Learning Journey in Senior Empowerment

At Little Changemakers, senior empowerment is not just about keeping seniors meaningfully engaged. It is about recognising their skills, stories and lived experiences, and creating platforms for them to continue contributing to the community in purposeful ways.

Mdm Henrietta is one such inspiring senior maker.

She is the heart and hands behind Mama Beezy Wrap, a handmade beeswax wrap brand built on care, practice and sustainability.

A mother, grandmother and breast cancer survivor, Mdm Henrietta has always shown her love through food. Cooking for her family was more than a daily routine. It was her way of caring, nourishing and bringing people together.

After her cancer journey, she became more mindful about what comes into contact with the meals she prepares for the people she loves. This led her to discover reusable beeswax wraps, a simple yet thoughtful alternative to disposable cling wrap that helps keep food fresh while reducing plastic waste.

What began as a personal choice for healthier, more sustainable food storage eventually grew into Mama Beezy Wrap, a handmade beeswax wrap brand shaped by care, experience and purpose.

A Two-Way Learning Session

This session was designed as a two-way learning exchange.

Mdm Henrietta taught our facilitators how to make beeswax wraps using her own recipe, which she has refined and perfected over time. She shared her materials, process, tips and the small details that make her wraps effective and lasting.

In return, our facilitators guided her in designing her workshop flow, structuring the learning experience, and preparing for facilitation. Together, we looked at how to make the session clear, engaging and meaningful for participants, especially for her upcoming first workshop at the AAC on 14 July.

It was a beautiful exchange of skills. She brought her craft knowledge and lived experience. Our team brought programme design, facilitation and workshop planning support.

Developing Mama Beezy Wrap as a Brand

Beyond the workshop, Little Changemakers also supported Madam Henrietta in developing Mama Beezy Wrap as a brand.

Together, we looked at how to tell her story, position her product and communicate the value behind her beeswax wraps. Mama Beezy Wrap is not just a reusable food wrap. It carries a story of family care, health awareness, sustainability and purposeful ageing.

We also explored how her wraps could be shared with a wider audience through workshops, customised sizes, gifting options and sustainable corporate or community programmes.

This brand development process is part of senior empowerment. It helps transform a senior’s personal skill into something visible, valued and viable. It gives her not only a product to share, but also a platform to teach, earn, connect and contribute.

A Recipe Perfected Over Time

Mdm Henrietta’s beeswax wrap recipe did not happen overnight.

Every step reflected her patience and attention to detail, from preparing the fabric to applying the beeswax blend evenly. She also shared that she sources her beeswax from Australia to ensure quality and purity.

What made the learning especially meaningful was the pride and confidence behind her sharing. Mdm Henrietta was not just showing us a product. She was teaching a process that came from years of care, experimentation and belief in sustainable living.

Keeping Food Fresh, Naturally

One of the highlights was when Mdm Henrietta showed chillies that had been kept in her Mama Beezy Wrap for two weeks. They were still looking plump and fresh.

It was a simple but powerful example of how reusable beeswax wraps can support everyday food storage while reducing the need for single-use plastic.

Sustainability does not always have to feel complicated. Sometimes, it starts with one reusable wrap, one mindful household habit and one maker who takes pride in doing things well.

More Than a Beeswax Wrap

Mama Beezy Wrap is more than an eco-friendly product.

It represents what senior empowerment can look like when seniors are given the opportunity to lead, teach and create. Through her wraps, Mdm Henrietta becomes a maker, educator and sustainability advocate.

Her skills are valued. Her experience is shared. Her contribution continues to create impact.

This is the kind of ageing we hope to champion, where seniors are not only recipients of care, but active contributors with knowledge, talent and purpose.
